IT professionals providing proactive managed technical support to a business team

Reliable IT Support Without the IT Headaches

ARC Safe Layer IT provides proactive managed IT services designed to keep your systems reliable, secure, and productive.

The Difference

Reactive Support Costs More Than It Looks

Most businesses do not choose break/fix support deliberately — they simply never moved away from it. The cost of that difference shows up as lost hours rather than as an invoice.

Break/Fix Support

You call when something breaks. Nobody is watching in between.

  • Problems surface when they interrupt work
  • Unpredictable costs that spike in bad months
  • Updates and security tooling drift out of date
  • No one owns your long-term technology plan
  • More failures mean more billable hours

Proactive Managed IT

We take ongoing responsibility for keeping systems healthy.

  • Issues identified before they interrupt your team
  • Predictable monthly cost you can budget for
  • Patching and security applied on a schedule
  • Technology planning aligned to business goals
  • We do better when your systems stay stable

Most Businesses Arrive Here After the Same Few Months

None of these are emergencies on their own. Together they are what outgrowing an arrangement looks like.

  • Problems get reported by whoever they stopped, not by anything watching
  • Nobody can say for certain which machines are missing updates
  • The person who set things up originally is no longer reachable
  • Onboarding a new employee takes days and a different person each time
  • Accounts still work for people who left months ago
  • IT spend is unpredictable and worst in the weeks you can least afford it
  • No one can answer what happens if a specific server does not come back
  • Support means one phone number and a hope that it is answered

If three or more of these are true, the issue is not the person fixing things. It is that nobody owns the environment between the fixes.

FAQ

Managed IT Services FAQs

What is the difference between break/fix support and managed IT?

With break/fix support you call someone after something has already gone wrong, and you pay for the time it takes to fix it. Nobody is watching your systems in between those calls, so problems are only discovered when they interrupt someone’s work.

With managed IT, the monitoring, updates, security tooling and planning happen continuously for a predictable monthly fee. The incentive changes too: under break/fix, more failures mean more billable hours. Under a managed agreement, we are better off when your systems stay stable.

How quickly do you respond to support requests?

Response expectations are defined in your service agreement and vary by the urgency of the issue — a whole office unable to work is not treated the same as a single printer request.

We’ll walk through the specific response targets that apply to your business during the consultation, before you commit to anything.

Do we need to replace all our current hardware to work with you?

Usually not. We start by reviewing what you already have and how it is performing. Equipment that is doing its job stays.

Where something is genuinely holding the business back — out of support, unreliable, or unable to run the security tools your environment needs — we’ll explain why, what the risk is, and what it would cost to address. You decide the timing.

Can we keep our existing internal IT person?

Yes, in a co-managed arrangement. This works well when responsibilities are written down clearly — for example, we take on monitoring, patching, security and Microsoft 365 while your internal person handles the applications and processes specific to your business.

What does not work well is an undefined split where both sides assume the other is handling something. We’ll be direct with you about where the boundaries need to sit.

What does a typical month look like once we are set up?

Mostly, it looks like nothing happening. Patching, monitoring, backup checks and security maintenance run in the background, and the measure of a good month is how few times anyone had to think about IT.

What you should see is the reporting behind that: what was updated, what was caught, what is coming up, and anything we think needs a decision from you.

What if we want to leave?

You take your environment with you. Documentation, accounts, licences and configuration belong to your business, not to us, and we hand them over rather than make the exit expensive.

A provider who makes leaving difficult is telling you how they intend to keep you.

Are you managing our systems, or are you replacing our decisions?

Managing them. We bring recommendations, the reasoning behind them and what they cost, and the decision stays with the business.

Where we think a decision is a mistake we will say so plainly and then carry it out, because it is your business and not ours.
